There is a natural cool about Rajat Banerjee! Nothing ruffles his feathers, no matter how difficult the situation and he handles all challenges with equanimity. As he says, “I am the only Trojan handling the allocation and sale of retail/commercial space in Mani Square.” From his early days in the hospitality industry to hardcore marketing has, indeed, been a big leap. But he seems to enjoy the rough with the smooth and confides, “There is fair amount of stress in my job as lots of things are happening in different fields. So the oldies are expected to carry forward the Mani tradition. The challenge lies in small things – how you react to customer queries, how you deal with vendors, how you help ease difficult situations often thrown up by disgruntled customers. I have been around long enough for people to feel a kind of continuity when they are dealing with the Group.” 

Rajat Banerjee is quick to point out that HR issues are being strengthened so that assignments are more demarcated. “I get people into the Mall and once they are in we have an entire team to handle them. I also sell office space for the Group. A fair amount of property has already been sold in our latest commercial venture, the Mani Casadona. Our buyers here are mainly from the IT industry and new-age commercial offices. So it is really right across the technology segment. We try and deliver more than what has been officially promised. And honestly, at the end of the day, this is the corporate vision we are working towards to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.”

About the leader of the Mani team, Rajat Banerjee opines, “I have never seen someone at Mr Jhunjhunwala’s level who invests so much attention to detail. He is a perfectionist and has tremendous knowledge on various aspects of our businesses, from engineering to architecture to law. I am in awe of his depth of information. He seems remote but is amenable to all situations that call for empathy and humaneness.”
