“The Purchase Department of Mani Group is centralised,” informs Mr Abhisekh Agarwal. “Every item used in our real estate business is indented through my department. Our businesses are located in different parts of India like Siliguri, Sikkim, Durgapur and Jaipur but all approvals have to come from Head Office in Kolkata.”
Mr Agarwal joined Mani Group in 2004. He initially looked after accounts, income tax and company matters. Then, since the last four years, the responsibility of looking after the Purchase Department came to him. “When I joined, the Company was located in Queen’s Park. During those days we were a small group of staff, about fifty or sixty colleagues, and much of our work would be done through verbal discussions and in a far more casual manner. We knew each other personally but now, with over eight hundred people in different locations, often we do not know each other though we are working for the same Group. That is why I feel that a newsletter like Mani Mandate is a very good idea to get to know our colleagues. In the early days we were more casual. Now we are getting professionalised. This helps us to work better as everyone has specific job definitions and targets. Now systems are in place and there are no overlaps. When you are developing real estate of over 10 million square feet, you have to ensure that work carries on smoothly and professionally!”
