Mr SchÖn Sarkar

Senior Vice President (Engineering), Mani Group

The name is certainly unusual for a Bengali, but SchÖn Sarkar explains that his maternal grandfather, who has spent time in Germany, had christened him fondly with a Teutonic appellation. As Senior Vice President (Engineering), he has a demanding role to play at the Group’s numerous construction projects. For SchÖn Sarkar, each day has its own trials and triumphs that makes his job exhilarating.

“I look after the execution of all engineering tasks and co-ordinate with the various teams at site,” reveals SchÖn Sarkar, even as he prepares to rush off to an important meeting. “It’s a hands-on assignment that I feel proud to lead a young and dedicated team of engineers and administrative staff who are highly motivated.”

The project that he is overseeing right now is Mani Casadona at Kolkata’s Rajarhat, a 20 lakh sq ft development It and ITES sector – a state-of-the-art complex that is being targeted for completion by 2014.

“There are no shortcuts in our Company,” reveals SchÖn with a smile. “We are one of the most technologically advanced Groups in eastern India. I enjoy implementing the latest technological systems that gives us an edge over others. We own much of our construction equipment that is very advanced. When you see a project coming up before your eyes, there is a huge sense of pride and achievement in the finished product.”

Working with Sanjay Jhunjhunwala keeps SchÖn Sarkar and his team on its toes. He points out, “Our boss is a perfectionist. He has instilled in us a culture to deliver of our best. He is extremely considerate at a personal level but is unwilling to compromise at any level, as far as work is concerned. Sanjay ji’s drive and energy is an inspiration. That’s what keeps us going!”
